Onango Irving, 72, of Manchester, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Son of the late James Arthur Irving Sr. and Margie (Utley) Brown, he was born on August 13, 1950, in Schenectady, NY.
Onango was born and raised in Schenectady, he attended college where he received his bachelor’s degree. He moved to Hartford, Connecticut and resided there for 40+ years. He was a Food Service Manager for many years at McDonald’s and was in charge of training management. Onango played sports and was very athletic. In his free time, he enjoyed watching basketball, especially the UConn games. Onango was a very talented chef and could always make something special out of nothing to share with friends and family. He had many positions dealing with disadvantaged youth such as group homes, Big Brothers and Special Olympics.
Onango is survived by his brothers, Robert Irving and his wife Josephine, and Anthony Irving; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, James Jr. and sisters Juanita Adams and Doretha Irving.
John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. A service will take place at the convenience of the family in their hometown of Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
